3-55. INJECTION PUMP REPAIR (CONT)
Plunger from one pump cannot be installed in another pump.
Coat all injection pump parts with clean fuel.
Install seal, bushing, and washer in barrel.
Install ring, collar, spring, check valve, and bonnet on barrel.
To prevent damage to pumps, do not install pumps until rack is in center position.
Rack will be extended 0.156 in. from end of pump housing (opposite governor) when mark is in the center.
Using pointer, push rack into pointer to get center position.
Turn camshaft down until lobe of camshaft is down on pump to be installed.
Look down pump and aline grooves in bonnet and barrel with groove in pump gear. Groove of gear must be in
alinement with center of these grooves.
Install pump so grooves are in alinement with guide pins in housing bores.
Using extractor, install pump in housing.
Do not apply force on bushings with a wrench to make them even with pump housing. Pump is
not installed correctly if force has to be used to install bearing.
Apply pressure by hand on extractor. Install bushing fingertight until it is even with top of housing.
If bushing cannot be installed by hand, remove bushing and pump. Aline grooves and install again.
