V-ring (smooth surface) must be placed between the two V-rings (textured surface)
when installing the packing into stuffing box.

0. Install spring (30) and throat ring (31).
Do not use excessive force to install plunger. Damage to packing or plunger could
p. Lubricate plunger (24) with glycerine. Insert plunger through nut (33). Approximately 2-1/2 in. (64 mm) of the
plunger should extend past the end of throat ring (31) on the opposite end of the stuffing box.
q. Wipe the stuffing box bores in valve housing (52) to be sure they are clean before installing stuffing box (22)
r. Install new preformed packing (23) on stuffing box (22).
Do not force the stuffing box into the stuffing box counterbores in the housing.
Stuffing box should slide in easily. Forcing the stuffing box could cause damage to the
housing and stuffing box.
Be careful not to allow the preformed packing to slip out of its groove, Also, be carefuI
not to damage the plunger while installing the stuffing boxes.
s. Install the stuffing box on studs (32) with the plunger rod as far to the rear as possible. This gives the maximum
amount of room and simplifies assembly.
t. Secure the stuffing box (22) to housing (52) with washers (21) and nuts (20). Hand tighten nuts (20) at this time.
