Wire rope tends to stretch and have a smaller diameter under load. Do not attempt to lift the water
purification unit without first checking the cables, torquing the cable clip retaining nuts to 225 ft-lb (31
kg-m), and inspecting shackles and clevis pins to ensure they are serviceable and securely fastened.
Move crane into position until crane hook is over center of truck and van body.
Lift sling cables from the roof of van body with attached cable ring and position cable ring in crane
Lift truck with van body a few inches off carrier and check for balance. When equipment is balanced
and all obstructions removed, swing it free of the carrier and lower it to the ground (fig. 4-5).
Unloading van body less truck.
Remove all blocking and tiedowns that secure the van to chassis.
Attach four cables (1, fig. 4-6) to lifting shackle brackets (3) located at base of van. Use spreader
bars (2) to keep cables from pressing against van.
Unloading cargo trailer.
Be sure the crane has a capacity of at least 3 tons (2,724 kg).
Attach cable hooks (6, fig. 4-7) to two lifting bars (8) and place cable ring (2) in crane hook (3).
Place spreader bar (5) on top of canvas cover (7) with cables (1 and 4) feeding through grooves on
the end of spreader bar.
Hoist crane hook (3) enough to take slack out of cables (1 and 4).
Lift trailer a few inches off the carrier and check for balance. When trailer is balanced, swing it free
of the carrier and lower it to the ground. Lower the front caster in a vertical position so wheel is resting on firm footing.
