Open quick acting gate control valve CV-34 (14, fig. 2-23) on suction line to filter pump.
(g)
Start filter pump by pressing switch START button (7 and 8, fig. 2-1).
(h)
Allow the filter pumps to run for not less than a minute to flush the filter cake from the elements (2,
fig. 2-28) to waste.

Filter pump.
(a)
Stop filter pump by pressing switch STOP buttons (11 and 12, fig. 2-1).
(b)
Close quick acting gage valve CV-34 (14, fig. 2-23) on the suction line of filter pump.
(3)
Draining filter and piping.
(a)
All liquid must be drained from the unit when it is shut down.
(b)
Open draincock DC-39 (15, fig. 2-23) at bottom of recirculation-filtered water line.
(c)
Open gate control valve CV-40 (11) in recirculation-filtered-water lines and set flow controller valve
CV-45 (6) at 30 gpm. Open two draincocks (DC-53 and DC-54) on each flow control valve CV-45 (6).
(d)
Turn filter effluent plug control valve CV-46 (5) to R (Recirculate position).
(e)
Open drain cocks DC-42 (12) and DC-44 (13), on filter pressure gages.
(f)
Turn the filter effluent plug control valve CV-46 (5) to F (Filter) position.
(g)
Change valve ARV-50 (2) to BACKWASH position.
(h)
Open air vent gate control valve CV-38 (1), above precoat funnel and precoat funnel gate control
valve CV-37 (17) below precoat funnels.
(i)
Open draincock DC-52 (17, fig. 1-3) to drain recirculation line.
(j)
Open filter pump drainplug in base of pump.
(k)
Open raw water pump draincock (9, fig. 2-18).
