3-23. CRANKSHAFT REPLACEMENT (CONT)

Remove crankshaft gear.

Remove collar bushing, needle bearings, and running washer.

Remove snapring.
5
Remove eight end plate retaining nuts and flatwashers.

Using soft hammer, tap crankshaft until end plate comes loose.

Remove end plate and gasket.
8
Remove crankshaft from flywheel end of engine block.
9
Remove bearing rings.
10
Inspect parts for damage. Replace as required.
b. Installation

Lubricate crankshaft bearing surfaces with engine oil (MIL-L-2104).

Install bearing rings on crankshaft.
3
Using soft hammer, install crankshaft in flywheel end of engine block.
4
Install gasket, end plate, eight flatwashers, and retaining nuts.
5
Install snapring.
NOTE
A space of 0.348 in. must be maintained between
running washer and crankshaft collar.
6
Install running washer, needle bearings, and collar bushing. Measure space between running washer and
crankshaft collar.
