on the disc matches the color of the indicator (left) tube. The reading can be made directly from the found window in
front of the comparator. The value is expressed in milligrams per liter (mg/l).

If the color of the indicator tube is between two colors on the chlorine color comparator disc, the value
must be estimated. Choose a value between the readings, corresponding to the colors either side of the indicator color.

The sodium arsenite must be added to the indicator tube within 5 seconds; the readings must be within one
minute.

When the test has been completed, remove both sample tubes from the comparator, empty out the
samples and wash the tubes with clean water.
2-10. FIRE EXTINGUISHERS.
a.
Description. The monobromotrifluoromethane type fire extinguisher replaces the carbon dioxide and carbon
tetrachloride type fire extinguishers used in the past. It is generally suitable for use on all type of fires, with exception of
fires involved with LOX (liquid oxygen) generating equipment. The fire extinguisher is furnished with a disposable-type
cylinder.
b.
Operation.
(1)
Remove fire extinguisher from its location.
(2)
Break seal by pulling safety pin from handle.
(3)
Point horn at base of flame.
(4)
Depress trigger for discharge and direct contents at base of fire.
WARNING
Avoid breathing of smoke.
(5)
Replace with new extinguisher immediately after using.
SECTION III. OPERATION UNDER UNUSUAL CONDITIONS
2-11. GENERAL.
a. The 3000 gph water purification unit and supporting equipment is capable of performing satisfactorily in varied
temperatures and weather conditions. Operations other than under normal conditions will require special operation and
maintenance precautions when locating, installing, and operating the equipment. The unit will not remove salt from
water. For detailed information and instructions pertaining to the treatment of poisoned water, refer to TM 5-700.
