Therefore, every effort should be made to obtain raw water well beneath the surface. Keep the erdlator aspirators in
continuous operation to facilitate the release of dissolved gases. The erdlator agitator should be operated at or near
maximum mixing speed. When the unit is stopped, slurry should not be stored in the erdlator for periods longer than 24
hours. The increased water temperature stimulates organic fermentation and will make the stored slurry septic, causing
floating floc particles.
2-14. OPERATION UNDER DUSTY OR SANDY CONDITIONS, OR OPERATION UNDER UNUSUAL WATER
CONDITIONS.
a.
Keep lubricants covered tightly and keep all lubrication points clean. Lubricate frequently.
b.
Keep van doors closed as much as possible.
c.
Cleans and dust off the unit very often.
d.
If possible, wet down the surrounding area to keep down the accumulation of dust.
e.
Keep storage tank covers lashed down tight.
f.
Whenever circumstances permit, locate equipment where dust and sand are at a minimum.
g.
Construct protective breaks and coverings to protect equipment during dust and sand storms.
h.
Unusual raw water includes water contaminated with chemicals, biological and radioactive materials, very
turbid, highly colored, or having very unusual chemical or physical characteristics. For information and instructions
pertaining to the treatment of unusual water, refer to TM 5-700.
NOTE
The water purification unit will not remove salt from water.
