In addition, this switch has a second sensing circuitwhich prevents the starter pinion from remainingengaged in the flywheel at excessive RPM.After the starting motor has cranked the engine, thepinion gear can remain engaged with the fly wheel asengine speed increases. At 600 RPM, the magneticpickup opens the circuit to thestarter motor which allows the pinion to disengage. Thecircuit remains open until the flywheel stops. Thisprevents energizing the starter motor again while theflywheel is turning.Overspeed Shutoff Switch (Electro-Mechanical)This switch is mounted either on the tachometer drive oron the governor. Excessive engine speed closes theswitch by centrifugal force. To reset the switch, push the button marked RE SET.The knob will remain down until the engine overspeeds.17
