Coolant Specifications Engine Coolant Use a mixture of fill water, antifreeze and Cooling System Conditioner. Caterpillar Form Number SEBD0518 entitled, "Know Your Cooling System" can provide more detailed specifications. Fill Water Always add conditioner to water. Never use plain water. Acceptable water for use in the ethylene glycol-type antifreeze and water mixture is shown on the chart below: Acceptable Water 50% Antifreeze Without Water Content 50% Water Antifreeze Chlorides 100 ppm 50 ppm or less or less Sulfates 100 ppm 50 ppm or less or less Hardness as 200 ppm 100 ppm CaCo3 or less or less Dissolved Solids 500 ppm 250 ppm or less or less pH 6.5 or higher 6.5 or higher ppm = parts per million Antifreeze Use ethylene glycol-type antifreeze. Use the correct amount to provide freeze protection to the lowest expected temperature. 25
