MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Step 14. Check continuity, point-to-point, from transformer T1 (X2) to MS8-2M coil. Use a multimeter set to Ohms x 1
and check continuity across MS8-2M coil terminals. It should be zero or near zero.
(a)
Repair any loose or damaged wire (para. 2-20).
(b) Replace the MS8-2M coil if it is open (para. 2-25).
Step 15. Check continuity. point-to-point, from transformer T1 (X2) to MS8-2S coil. Use a multimeter set to Ohms x 1
and check continuity across MS8-2S coil terminals. It should be zero or near zero.
(a)
Repair any loose or damaged wire (para. 2-20).
(b) Replace the MS8-2S coil if it is open (para. 2-25).
Step 16. Check continuity across the MS8-1M auxiliary timer contact; wires #258 and #259. It should be open.
Manually engage the MS8-1M contactor. The timer contact should close a few seconds after the MS8-1M
starter is engaged.
Replace the auxiliary timer block on MS8-1M if it does not operate as described (para. 2-25).
Step 17. Check continuity, point-to-point, from PB14(1A4) to MS8-1S auxiliary contact (wire #258). Manually engage
contactor MS8-1M when checking across its contact.
(a)
Repair any loose or damaged wire (para. 2-20).
(b) Replace the MS8-1M auxiliary contact if it does not close when the contactor is engaged (para. 2-25).
Step 18. Power up the ROWPU. Turn off circuit breaker CB6 (REF: Interconnection diagram FO-2, Sheet 10). Start the
raw water and boost pumps. Start the high pressure pump.
Watch the high pressure pump contactors to ensure they operate as described in the general note on
operation.
Step 19. Check for defective HIGH PRESSURE PUMP jog switch.
(a) Use a multimeter to check that circuits on jog switch open and close properly during jog switch
activation.
(b) Replace jog switch if defective.
1.1. High pressure pump does not respond to jog switch.
Refer to MALFUNCTION 1.

3.
High pressure pump starts but shuts down when the start button is released. (Ref. Schematic diagram FO-1, sheet 6,
schematic lines 633 abd 635).
Step 1.
Shut down ROWPU and generator. Refer to electrical drawings in Appendix D and remove wire #257 from the
MS8-1S coil, #259 from the MS8-1M (REF: Interconnection diagram FO-2, Sheet 10) coil, #258 from ETM2
(REF: Interconnection diagram FO-2, Sheet 13), and #262 from PL11 (REF: Interconnection diagram FO-2.
Sheet 11). Check continuity, point-to-point, from PB14(1A3) (REF: Interconnection diagram FO-2, Sheet 11)
to MS8-1M (wire #258). Manually engage contactor MS8-1S when checking across its contact.
(a)
Repair any loose or damaged wire (para. 2-20).
(b)
Replace the MS8-1S auxiliary contact if it does not show continuity when MS8-1S is engaged (para.
2-25).
Step 2. Check continuity, point-to-point, from PB14(1A4) to MS8-1M (wire #258). Manually engage contactor
MS8-1M when checking across its contact.
(a)
Repair any loose or damaged wire (para. 2-20).
(b) Replace the MS8-1 M auxiliary contact if it does not show continuity when MS8-1M is engaged (para.
2-25).
Control circuits operate correctly but high pressure pump does not start. (Ref. Schematic diagram FO-1, sheet 5,
schematic lines 502-510).
Step 1.
Shut down ROWPU and generator. Refer to electrical drawings in Appendix D and check that all of the wires
for the high pressure pump motor contactors in the control panel are tight. Check continuity, point-to-point,
and check each lead for shorts to ground in the following circuits: Manually engage the motor contacts when
testing across their contacts.

CB6(8L3) through MSB-1M to J69C 8T3
CB6(8L3) through MS8-2M to J69B 8T5
(a)
Repair any loose or damaged wire (para. 2-20).
(b)
Replace/repair any cable or connector that shows open or short (para. 2-18 and 2-68).
