WARNING
Dry-cleaning solvent, P-D-680, used to clean parts is potentially dangerous to personnel and property.
Wear chemical resistant gloves when using solvents, and avoid repeated or prolonged skin contact. Do
not use near open flame or excessive heat. Flash point of solvent is 100 degrees F to 138 degrees F (38
degrees C to 59 degrees C).
b.
Cleaning. Clean all metal parts with dry-cleaning solvent.
c.
Inspection. Inspect the exterior of the housing cover plate and charging door for cracks, breaks and other
damage.
3-42. CHEMICAL SOLUTION FEEDER ASSEMBLY.
a.
General. The chemical solution feeder assembly (fig. 3-27) consists of two diaphragm pumps with the
necessary hose. They are operated by one electric motor through a gear reduction mechanism which transmits power to
a reciprocating mechanism and priming levers. The gear reduction mechanism reduces the speed so that the pumps
operate approximately 12 strokes per minute. The length of the pump stroke is adjustable to provide a feed rate of 1/2 to
2 1/2 gph. The adjustment can be made without stopping the pump. The rate-of-feed for each pump can be controlled
individually.
WARNING
Do not work on the pumps unless the circuit breakers are OFF and the electrical cable plug connectors (6,
fig. 3-22) are disconnected from the feeder.

b.
Cleaning. Clean all foreign matter from the components. A white coating on any part is an indication of mineral
deposits. Remove by wiping or soaking the part in muriatic acid (a 5% hydrochloric acid solution) or dry-cleaning
solvent.
c.
Inspection. Inspect all parts for damage.
