Preparation of solution.
1.
Empty the contents of five plastic bags (1 pound each) of ferric chloride in a rubber pail.
2.
Add 1 gallon of water and stir the contents with a wooden paddle or stick until the ferric chloride
is completely dissolved.
3.
Fill the pail to the 3-gallon mark with raw water and pour it into the right-hand side of ferric
chloride solution tank (5, fig. 2-10).

Preparation of calcium hypochlorite.
(a)
Initial base charge. The initial base charge for calcium hypochlorite as shown on the calcium
hypochlorite solution chart (fig. 2-11) is 1/4 pound of calcium hypochlorite per gallon of water.
(b)
Preparation of solution.
1.
Measure 1 ¼ pound of calcium hypochlorite into the calibrated plastic measuring cup provided
especially for this purpose. Pour the contents of the cup into another rubber pail.
2.
Fill the pail to the 3-gallon mark with raw water. Stir the water with a wooden paddle or stick
until the hypochlorite is completely dissolved.
