TM 5-4610-223-12
chemical feed rates for start up and operation (refer to para. 2-5 and TM5-6330-215-12, Water Quality Analysis Set,
Preventative Medicine). Tighten thumbscrew after final adjustment.
(c)
Loosen thumbscrew (2, fig. 2-5.1) and turn calcium hypochlorite control knob (6) fully counter clockwise to
100 percent stroke. Turn control knob clockwise as required to obtain correct chemical feed rates for start up and
operation (refer to para. 2-5 and TM5-6330-215-12, Water Quality Analysis Set, Preventative Medicine). Tighten
thumbscrew after final adjustment.
NOTE
The Raider Mode 72-PVC-Duplex chemical solution feeder is self priming. No priming by the
operator is required.
(9)
Starting chemical slurry feeder.
(a)
Prepare limestone slurry and charge limestone compartment as indicated in para 2-4b. (4).
(b)
Set right-hand variator feed indicator FEI-6 (1, fig. 2-14) at zero reading.
(c)
Start slurry feeder motor by pressing slurry feeder switch START button (9, fig. 2-1).
(d)
Allow slurry to be thoroughly mixed and then reset right-hand variator feed indicator FEI-6 (1, fig. 2-14) at
scale reading for 50 ppm dosage as shown on limestone slurry calibration chart (fig. 2-12).
(10)
Starting erdlator for treatment of the raw water.
CAUTION
Do not start the erdlator agitator drive motor until there is at least 1 foot of water in the erdlator tank.
(a)
Position and adjust agitator drivebelt.
1.
Position agitator drivebelt (1, fig. 2-21) in third groove of motor drive pulley (2) away from motor (3).
2.
Turn motor adjustment wheel crank (4) clockwise to decrease tension or counterclockwise to increase tension.
The belt is correctly adjusted when it can be depressed 1 inch at a point midway between agitator drive motor pulley (2)
and drive shaft pulley (6).
3.
The speed of the agitator is controlled by positioning belt in desired groove of the motor pulley (2). Installing belt
on a larger pulley groove increases speed, and on a smaller pulley groove decreases speed.
