Remove plunger assembly nut. Pull plunger assembly from lever housing.

Remove lever assembly, ring, and drive assembly.

Inspection

Inspect brushes and brush springs. Replace badly worn brushes. Replace brush springs if they are distorted or
discolored.

Inspect all parts for breaks, cracks, bends, and other damage. Replace as required.

Cleaning
CAUTION
To prevent damage to armature or fields, do not clean them in solvent.

Clean armature and slots, removing all traces of dirt and copper dust.

Using sandpaper, remove burrs.

Solvent may cause toxic fumes. To prevent personal injury, work only in well ventilated area.
DO NOT breathe fumes for a long time.

Solvent is flammable. To prevent fire or explosion, DO NOT bring open flame or sparks near
solvent.

Using solvent, clean all other parts.

Testing

Using a dial indicator, check armature and shaft for out-of-round.

Using a growler and steel strip, check armature for shorts. If steel strip vibrates, clean armature with sandpaper,
brush away dust, and retest.

Using test lamp, test armature insulation for grounds.
