(6) Carefully rotate crankshaft by hand to bring piston (15) to its uppermost position. Using snap ring pliers, remove
snap rings (13). Remove piston pin (14) and piston (15).
(7) If necessary, remove rings (16) using a ring expander.
(8) If necessary, remove studs (17).
d. First Stage Components:
(1) Refer to Figure 2-82. Remove four nuts (1) and washers (2) and remove first stage head (3) and gasket (4).
(2) Unscrew intake elbow (5) and remove preformed packing (6).
(3) Clamp head (3) securely in a vise with top facing upward.
(4) Unscrew plug (7) from head (3).
(5) Remove preformed packing (8) and washer (9).
(6) Remove pressure valve assembly (10). Discard the pressure valve assembly (10). It is not reusable.
(7) If necessary, remove plug (11), gasket (12), nut (13), washer (14) and stud (15).
(8) Turn head (3) over with top facing downward.
