(4) Installation.
(a) Install lower piston ring (8) and beveled upper piston ring.
( 7 ) . Ensure ends of rings aline with pins in ring grooves.
CAUTION
Be sure that arrow on top of piston is pointing toward exhaust port of engine.
Failure to do so will result in damage to engine.

Install circlip (11) in one side of piston.
Coat needle bearing (19) with grease (item 3, Appendix C)
and install into connecting rod (20).
Install plates (18) on connecting rod (20).
Place piston (9) into position on connecting rod and insert
wrist pin (10) through piston (9).
Install other circlip (11) on piston (9) to secure wrist pin
(10).
Apply a bead of locking compound (item 2, Appendix C) to
cylinder mating surface on crankcase.
Install cylinder gasket (6) on crankcase.
Apply a bead of locking compound (item 2, Appendix C) to
cylinder gasket (6).
Lightly oil the inside of the cylinder (16) with lubricating
oil (item 4, Appendix C).
Position cylinder over piston. Manually compress top ring
(7) and carefully slide cylinder over pistion. Manually
compress bottom ring (8) and carefully slide cylinder into
position.
Seat cylinder (16) on crankcase.
Secure cylinder (16) with four lockwashers (5) and four
nuts (4).
Cross-torque nuts (4) to 16-18 lb-ft (192-216
in-lb).
Lay a sheet of abrasive
cloth on a smooth flat
surface with the rough side up.
Rub the cylinder head
(3) mounting surface back and forth on the crocus cloth
until the mounting surface is smooth and shiny. Remove
all traces of sanding grit from cylinder.
