2-54. FAN REPLACEMENT/REPAIR (CONT)
c. Inspection
1
Check housing for cracks and broken or missing air direction fins.
2 Check fan for cracked or missing blades.
3
Check shaft for bends or cracks.
4 Check bearings for damage. Check that bearings turn freely.
5
Check bushings for scratches and snug fit on shaft and in fan housing.
6
Replace damaged parts.
d. Assembly

Press bearings and bushings on shaft.
2
Press bearing shaft in pulley. Install snap ring.
3
Install pulley on fan. Install three flatwashers and bolts.
4
Install front bushings in fan housing.
5 Install fan in housing.
6
Install rear bushing in fan housing.
7
Install flatwasher on bolt. Install bolt through shaft.
8
Install 0-ring, washer, and lockwasher on rear of fan. Install nut.
9
Install fan cap.
e. Installation
NOTE
Fan pulley must be in direct line with crankshaft and alternator pulleys.

Install fan, aligning pulley with crankshaft and alternator pulleys. Install four flatwashers and mounting screws.
2 Install fuel filter (para 2-47).
3
Tighten fan clamp bolt.
4
Install fanbelt (para 2-48).
