3-79. FRONT AND REAR SEAL AND WEAR SLEEVE REPLACMENT (CONT)

Turn distorter until the ends of the tool make a flat piece (crease) in the wear sleeve. Do this in two or more
places until wear sleeve is loose.

Remove tools and wear sleeve by hand.
b. Installation

Clean wear sleeve inside diameter and crankshaft outside diameter.

Apply sealing compound to crankshaft outside diameter before installing wear sleeve on crankshaft.

Install locator and screws on the crankshaft.

Apply clean engine oil (MIL-L-2104) on lip of seal and outside diameter of wear sleeve.
NOTE
Make sure lip of seal is toward inside of engine and outside diameter bevel of wear sleeve is
toward outside of engine.

Install seal on wear sleeve.

Install wear sleeve and seal on locator.

Install spacer on stud of locator.
8
Place installer in position on locator.

Apply engine oil (MIL-L-2104) on face of nut and contact area on installer.

Tighten nut until inside surface of installer comes in contact with spacer.
NOTE
Front seal should be 0.06 in. from front face of crankshaft to front edge of wear sleeve. Rear seal
should be 0.10-0.14 in. from face of crankshaft to edge of wear sleeve.

Remove tools and check for correct position.

Install vibration damper (para 3-73).

Install flywheel (para 3-70).
