3-77. CAMSHAFT REPLACEMENT (CONT)
b. Bearings Removal

Remove flywheel housing (para 3-70).

Remove timing gears and plate (para 3-68).

Remove pistons (para 3-76).
4 Using bearing puller/installer and extension, pull camshaft bearings from cylinder block, starting with rear
bearing.
5
Inspect bearings for damage. Replace as required.
c. Bearings Installation
CAUTION
Oil holes in bearings must be in alinement with oil hole in cylinder block. The front bearing has
two holes. Incorrect installation may cause damage.

Start with rear bearing. Using bearing puller/installer and extension, press camshaft bearings into cylinder block
with oil holes alined.

Press in front bearing until it is 0.11 in. from machined surface of cylinder block.

Install pistons (para 3-76).
4
Install timing gears and plate (para 3-68).
5
Install flywheel housing (para 3-70).
