Inspection. Inspect van body for punctures or penetrations of the outer body skin, broken windows or other
damage.
3-14. PERSONNEL HEATER.
a.
General. Each van body is equipped with a gasoline burning personnel heater located in the bonnet end of the
van body. It is used to maintain above freezing temperature inside the van to protect the equipment and personnel
during cold weather.
b.
Cleaning and Inspection.
(1)
Clean the heater case with a clean cloth.
(2)
Inspect for dents, cracks, defective threads and other damage.
c.
Maintenance. Maintenance procedures for the hunter heater models UH-68-D and -E are contained in TM 5-
4520U-233-14, and for model UH-68-4 in TM 5-4520-227-14.
3-15. HEATER FUEL PUMP.
a.
General. The electric fuel pump is located on the outside of the van body at the front of the lower right-hand
corner. It supplies the personnel heater with fuel from the fuel tank on the truck. The fuel pump is selfpriming and
requires no adjustment or bleeding before starting.
b.
Cleaning and Inspection.
WARNING
Drycleaning solvent, P-D-680, used to clean parts is potentially dangerous to personnel and property.
Wear chemical resistant gloves when using solvents, and avoid repeated or prolonged skin contact.
Do not use near open flame or excessive heat. Flash point of solvent is 106 degrees F to 138
degrees F (38 degrees C to 59 degrees C).
