3-57. CHEMICAL SLURRY FEEDER SPEED REDUCER.
a.
General. The chemical slurry feeder speed reducer (8, fig. 3-35) is located beneath the slurry feeder tank. It
reduces speed from the slurry feeder drive motor to the slurry feed agitator.
WARNING
Drycleaning solvent, P-D-680, used to clean parts is potentially dangerous to personnel and property.
Wear chemical resistant gloves when using solvents, and avoid repeated or prolonged skin contact.
Do not use near open flame or excessive heat. Flash point of solvent is 100 degrees F to 138
degrees F (38 degrees C to 59 degrees C).
b.
Cleaning. Clean the speed reducer with drycleaning solvent.
c.
Inspection. Inspect speed reducer for a cracked housing and mounting base, leaky gaskets, damaged shafts,
and loose or damaged bearings.
3-58. CHEMICAL SLURRY FEEDER DRIVE CHAIN, CHAIN TIGHTENER AND SPROCKETS.
a.
General. The chain tightener (8, fig. 3-36) is mounted near the center of chemical feed equipment frame. It
consists of a sprocket (9) and shaft mounted on an adjustable bracket and is used to increase or decrease the drive chain
tension. The chemical slurry feeder roller chain (1) is located around the slip clutch assembly (2), the chain tightener
sprocket (8) and the speed reducer sprocket (9) on the drive end of the slurry feeder agitator shaft.

b.
Cleaning. Clean all parts with drycleaning solvent.
c.
Inspection. Inspect all parts for damage. Inspect the collar and sprockets (5 and 7, fig. 3-36) for wear.
