4-105. FILTERED WATER PIPING FROM FILTERS TO PLUG VALVES.
a.
General. This piping is painted green and is located in an upright position at the side of the filters. The piping
assemblies are connected to the bottom of the filters with slip joint couplings and to the plug valves with unions. Each
assembly is removed and installed in the same manner.
b.
Removal and Disassembly.
(1)
Remove diatomite filter gages with mounting bracket, tubing and fittings as necessary (para 4-66).
(2)
Remove two nuts (20, fig. 4-52) washers (19), and U-bolt (21) securing piping to floor bracket.
(3)
Disconnect coupling (22) from pipe extension at bottom of filter (26).
(4)
Disconnect elbow with union (3) from plug valve (2).
(5)
Disconnect union (3) from plug valve (2) and lift the assembly from unit.
(6)
Remove half of union (13, fig. 4-91) from pipe (12) and pipe (12) from tee (11).
(7)
Remove draincock (10) from tee (11) and tee (11) from pipe (9).
(8)
Remove pipe (9) from tee (8) and tee (8) from nipple (7).
(9)
Remove nipple (7) from valve (6), and valve (6) from nipple (5), then nipple (5) from union (4).
(10)
Remove union (4) from valve (3) and valve (3) from other union (4).
(11)
Remove union (4) from nipple (2) from valve (1).
c.
Clean, Inspect, and Replace.
WARNING
Drycleaning solvent, P-D-680, used to clean parts is potentially dangerous to personnel and property.
Wear chemical resistant gloves when using solvents, and avoid repeated or prolonged skin contact.
Do not use near open flame or excessive heat. Flash point of solvent is 100 degrees F to 138
degrees F (38 degrees C to 59 degrees C).
