3-58. FUEL PUMP REPAIR (CONT)
b. Assembly
1 Install bearing on gear end of housing to a depth of 0.01-0.05 in. below surface of housing.

Install bearing on opposite end of housing even with housing surface

Coat outside diameters of seals with sealing compound.

Install first seal with lip toward bearing. Tap in to a depth of 0.396-0.416 in.

Install second seal with lip away from bearing. Tap in until seal is even with housing surface.

Install valve assembly in housing to a depth of 0.55-0.59 in.

Install O-ring on plug.

Screw a 5/16 in.-18 NC forged eyebolt into plug.

Apply a light film of diesel fuel (VV-F-800) on O-ring.

Install plug. Plug must be even with surface of housing. Remove eyebolt.

Put O-ring on housing assembly.
12 Apply a small amount of diesel fuel (W-F-800) on lip of seals.

Install guide on shaft assembly.

Install shaft assembly in body assembly. Remove guide.
15
Install gear in housing.

Apply sealing compound to housing surface that contacts end cove.
17
Install end cover. Install six bolts and flatwashers.
18
Turn shaft by hand. Shaft must turn freely.
19
Install plunger, spring, gasket, and plunger screw. Torque screw to 24-30 ft lb.

Install fuel pump (para 2-97).
