3-64. CYLINDER HEAD REPLACEMENT (CONT)
CAUTION
Care must be taken not to damage dowels.
NOTE
There are two O-rings under spacer plate.

Remove spacer plate and gasket. Discard gasket.
b. Installation
CAUTION
Spacer plate, spacer plate gasket, top of cylinder block, and surface of cylinder head must be
clean and dry. Do not use gasket adhesives or other substances on these surfaces.

Thoroughly clean spacer plate, top of cylinder block, and surface of cylinder head.

Install spacer plate gasket.

Install two O-rings. Install spacer plate.

Install 24 seals and 2 O-rings.

Using suitable lifting device, place cylinder head on engine.

Lubricate cylinder head bolts with engine oil (MIL-L-2104).

Torque cylinder head bolts 1 thru 20 in sequence shown above.
Torque bolt in three steps.
a. 180-220 ft lb
b. 315-345 ft lb
c. Check for 315-345 ft lb of torque with hand torque wrench.
