3-62. VALVE REPLACEMENT/REPAIR (CONT)
a. Removal

Using spring compressor, compress spring. Remove locks.

Remove spring compressor, rotocoil, and spring.

Remove valve from bottom of cylinder head. Tag location of valve for reassembly.

Perform steps 1 thru 6 for each valve to be removed.

Inspect parts for damage. Replace as required.

Using spring tester, check tension of valve springs. Spring force should be 73.6-77.8 ft lb when length of
spring under test is 2.165 in. Replace all valves with incorrect tensions.
b. Repair

Check valve stems for bending, pitting, and wear. Replace as required. If valves are mildly pitted, they may
be refaced.

Using valve grinder, reface valves:
Angle of intake valve face: 29-1/4° ±1/4°
Angle of exhaust valve face: 44-1/4°±1/4°
