TM 10-4610-229-243-69. POWER TAKEOFF REPAIR (CONT)13Install bearing retainer. Secure to power takeoff housing with six bolts. Tighten cap bolts to a point wherebearing free play is just eliminated.14Rotate shaft several times. Seat and aline rollers.15Using a feeler gage, measure gap between bearing retainer and power takeoff housing. Record measurement.16Add 0.006 in. to measurement to compute bearing free play.17Select shims of this thickness.18Remove six bolts and bearing retainer from power takeoff housing.19Install shims over shaft and onto bearing retainer mounting surface on power takeoff housing.20Install bearing retainer. Install six bolts. Torque to 38-42 ft lb.21Attach dial indicator to power takeoff housing with stem resting on input end of power takeoff driveshaft.22Raise power takeoff shaft with a lifting device to move forward bearing race against bearing retainer. Powertakeoff housing may have to be tapped downward.23Zero dial indicator with lifting device released.24Raise driveshaft with lifting device.25Rotate driveshaft several times to seat and aline rollers. Record dial indicator reading.26Lower driveshaft. Dial indicator should read zero. The recorded reading should be 0.006-0.010 in. for properbearing adjustment. If adjustment is not correct, repeat steps 13 through 26.27Press roller bearing into bearing carrier. Seat bearing in bottom of carrier bore. Press only on outer race.28Install snapring in groove next to bearing.3-182
