2-104. VALVE ADJUSTMENT (CONT)

Insert feeler gage.
NOTE
Valve clearance is correctly adjusted when a slight drag is felt on feeler
gage. Correct adjustment is as follows:
·
Intake valve: 0.027-0.033 in.
·
Exhaust valve: 0. 012-0.018 in.

Check intake valve clearance for cylinders 1, 2, and 4.

Check exhaust valve clearance for cylinders 1, 3, and 5.

If valve clearance is not correct, adjust valves (subpara c).

Remove tdc screw from flywheel.

Turn crankshaft 360
. Install tdc screw in flywheel. No. 6 cylinder is now at tdc.

Check intake valve clearance for cylinders 3, 5, and 6.

Check exhaust valve clearance for cylinders 2, 4, and 6.

If valve clearance is not correct, adjust valves (subpara c).

Install valve covers (para 2-103).
c. Adjustment
NOTE
It is not necessary to change the bridge adjustment for normal valve adjustment.

Remove valve covers (para 2-103).

Place No. 1 cylinder at tdc (subpara a).
NOTE
Intake valves for cylinders 1, 2, and 4 and exhaust valves for cylinders 1, 3, and 5 can be adjusted.
Intake valve clearance should be 0. 030 in. Exhaust valve clearance should be 0. 015 in.

Loosen adjusting screw nut.

Insert feeler gage.
