3-54. INJECTION PUMP REPLACEMNT (CONT)

Tighten automatic timing advance by hand.

Turn engine right until no. 1 piston is at tdc compression stroke.

Install timing screw.

Turn crankshaft two complete revolutions returning to tdc compression stroke.

Torque automatic timing advance screws to 25 ft lb.

Remove injection pump timing tool from injection pump.

Torque automatic timing advance screws to 50 ft lb.
CAUTION
Do not tighten automatic timing device screws to a final torque unless injection pump timing tool
is removed. Damage to injector will result.

Torque automatic timing advance screw to a final torque of: ·
75-85 ft lb for unit with flat retainer
105-115 ft lb for unit with step retainer

Remove timing screw.

Turn crankshaft two complete revolutions returning to tdc compression stroke.

Install timing screw.

Install injection pump timing tool through hole in pump housings and into notch in injection pump camshaft.
NOTE
If timing tool cannot be installed in the notch of the fuel injection camshaft, repeat steps 1 thru 24.
If timing is correct, do not remove injection timing tool or timing screw.

Install suitable lifting device.

Lift and install injection pump.

Install six injection-pump-to-injector-drive mounting bolts.
