3-72. OIL PUMP REPLACEMENT/REPAIR (CONT)

Remove woodruff key.

Remove two bypass valve retainer bolts.

Remove bypass retainer, spring, and bypass valve.

Remove four gear cover screws. Remove cover from pump body.

Remove bearings from cover.
8
Remove gears from pump body.
9
Remove bearings from pump body.

Inspect pump body, cover, and gears for cracks, wear, and obvious damage. Replace damaged parts. Replace
all bearings.
c. Assembly
NOTE
Split in bearing should be 15-45° from centerline of oil pump outlet passage.

Install bearings into pump housing.

Install idler gear and drive gear in pump housing.
NOTE
Split in bearings should be 23-53° from centerline of bearing bores toward oil pump outlet
passage.

Install bearings into pump housing cover.

Install cover. Install four bolts.
5
Install bypass valve and spring.
6
Install bypass valve retainer. Install two bolts.
7
Install woodruff key in slot on shaft.
8
Install gear on shaft. Install washer and bolt.
9
Turn pump gear by hand. Pump should turn freely.
d. Installation

Install oil pump. Install three mounting bolts.

Install two oil supply tubes. Install mounting bolts.
