Lubricate the cap bearing halves with engine oil (MIL-L-2104).

Repeat steps 8 thru 10.
NOTE
•
Thrust bearing must be installed with side marked BLOCK SIDE toward cylinder block.
•
End play is controlled by the thrust bearings of no. 4 main bearing.

Install thrust bearings for no. 4 main bearing.

Connect dial indicator to a machined surface of crankcase.

Check end play of the crankshaft. End play with new bearings should be 0.006-0.022 in. Maximum end play
with used bearings is 0.035 in.

Install pistons (para 3-76).

Install oil pump (para 3-72).

Install flywheel (para 3-70).

Install timing gear cover (para 3-68).

Install front and rear seal and wear sleeve (para 3-79).

Install fuel injection pump (para 3-52).
