Remove bearing caps.6Remove crankshaft.7Remove crankshaft main bearings from cylinder block and bearing caps.b. Installation1Install one flywheel bolt in each end of crankshaft.2Lubricate crankshaft and crankshaft bearings with engine oil (MIL-L-2104).3Install crankshaft bearing halves in cylinder block and bearing caps. Make sure bearing tabs are in grooves.4Connect a suitable lifting device to crankshaft.5Install crankshaft in cylinder block.6Place a 0.039 in. solder wire on bearing.CAUTIONTo prevent damage: Make sure main bearing caps are installed so that numbers on side ofcylinder block are the same as on bearing caps. Make sure arrows on bearing caps point to frontof cylinder block.NOTEDo not turn crankshaft when solder wire is in position to check clearance.7Install bearing caps. Install bearing cap bolts.8Starting at end with tab, torque bolts to 180-200 ft lb.9Starting at end opposite tab, turn bolts an extra 115-125°.10Remove bolts. Remove bearing caps. Remove solder wire from bearing caps.11Measure thickness of solder wire. Thickness should be 0.0036-0.0073 in. with new bearings. Maximumclearance with used bearings is 0.010 in.3-191
