4-90. CHEMICAL PIPING.
a.
General. This section contains information on chemical piping used throughout the water purification unit. Since
it is important to describe each pipe line individually, this section contains basic information only. When pipes or fittings
are defective, obtain new pipe components from bulk stock and use the old piping as a pattern to prepare a new chemical
line.
b.
Removal.
(1)
Pipe lines removed as a unit.
(a) Remove any pipe clamps or other holding devices from the line.
(b) Disconnect the unions in the line.
(c) Remove the section of the line from the assembly or piping to which it is attached.
(2)
Pipe lines removed by individual pieces.
(a) Remove any pipe clamps or other holding devices from the line.
(b) Disconnect the unions in the line.
(c) Disconnect any plastic hoses, then remove the piping or the piping assemblies one at a time as
applicable.

Inspect. Inspect the piping for cracks, damaged threads, corrosion, rust, an accumulation of scale, or
obstructions of scale, or obstructions in the pipe.

Replace. Replace any unserviceable parts.

Installation.
(1)
Pipe lines installed as unit.
(a) Attach the sections of the line to the assemblies or piping from which they were removed.
(b) Connect all unions in the lines.
(c) Install any clamps, or other holding devices, that were used to secure the line.
(2)
Pipe lines installed by individual pieces.
(a) Screw the proper fitting in or on the assembly or piping from which it was removed. Then install the
assemblies and the pipe and fittings one at a time as applicable, until the line is completed.
