3-29. ALTERNATOR REPAIR (CONT)
c. Assembly

Install front bearing in front housing.

Using bearing press and driver tool that contacts outer bearing race only, press in bearing.

Place bearing retainer in recess of front housing.

Aline retainer ears with opening in housing.

Using wood dowel or hammer handle, apply pressure on retainer while locking edge of retainer in recess.

Support pulley end of rotor on an arbor press.
7 Place bearing over end of shaft.

Use bearing press and drive that contacts inner race only. Press bearing on shaft until inner race contacts
shoulder.

Place rotor on bed of arbor press using two steel blocks for support.

Place front housing over shaft.

Use bearing press and drive that contacts inner bearing race only. Press front housing down until inner bearing
race contacts shoulder on shaft.
12
Install retainer on rotor shaft.
13
Install woodruff key and fan.
14
Install pulley. Install lockwasher and nut.
15
Keep fan and pulley from turning. Torque nut to 40-50 ft lb.
16
Manually spin rotor to check freedom of bearing and seals.
