3-29. ALTERNATOR REPAIR (CONT)

Remove four nuts and thru bolts.

Carefully loosen front housing.

Remove rotor and front housing.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to stator windings, make sure area is clean and free of metal chips.

Remove nuts and insulators from diode terminal studs.
NOTE
Stator and diode sets are removed as an assembly.

Carefully tap the rectifier diode terminal studs out of rear housing.

Lift rear housing off the studs.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to diode, be sure to draw heat away. Avoid bending or twisting diode.

Use straight-nose pliers between the top of the diode and diode body to draw heat away from the diode.
Desolder stator leads from diodes. Allow solder joint to cool for a few seconds before removing heat dam.

Keep fan from turning.

Remove pulley retaining nut and washer. Remove pulley.

Remove fan.

Remove woodruff key.
