3-29. ALTERNATOR REPAIR (CONT)
CAUTION
To prevent damage to diode, be sure to draw heat away. Avoid bending or twisting diode.

Use straight nose pliers between the top of the diode and diode body to draw heat away from the diode. Solder
leads to diode terminal. Allow solder joint to cool for a few seconds before removing heat dam.

Install insulating washers and sleeves.

Carefully insert rectifier diode terminal studs through rear housing.

Install insulating washers and nuts.

Install O-ring in recess of rear housing.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to O-ring, do not use engine oil on O-ring surface.

Coat exposed surface of O-ring with minimum amount of hydraulic brake fluid.

Aline rear housing with front housing. Hand-press housing together.
24 Install thru bolts and nuts. Torque to 30-35 in. lb.

Manually spin rotor. Check freedom of bearings.

Install brush assembly and two screws.
