Find the difference between reading in step 15 and step 16. Record the difference.

Add 4.00 in. Record total.
NOTE
Correct dimension is 4.297-5.001 in.

If your total reading recorded in step 18 is not in tolerance, add or subtract spacers as required and repeat timing
check.

Install spacers with their lifters.

Install rack in pump housing.
WARNING
To prevent fire or explosion, do not bring sparks or open flame near diesel fuel.

Coat all parts of the injection pumps with fuel.
23 Remove tags. Install spring, washers, and plunger in barrel.

Install spring, check valve, bonnet, and ring on barrel.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to pumps, do not install pumps until rack is in center position.
NOTE
The rack will be extended 0.156 in. from end of pump housing (opposite governor) when rack is
in center position.

Using pointer, push rack into pointer to get center position.

Turn camshaft down until lobe of camshaft is down on pump to be installed.

Aline centers of grooves in bonnet and barrel with groove in pump gear.

Install pump with grooves alined with guide pins which are in housing bores.
