TM 10-4610-229-243-76. PISTON AND CONNECTING ROD REPLACEMENT/REPAIR (CONT)c. Assembly1 Heat connecting rod to 350°-400°F. Check temperature with heat chalk.NOTEOld bearing is pressed out as new bearing is pressed in.2Install bearing. Press bearing into connecting rod.3Check piston pin bore diameter after the bearing is Installed. Correct dimensions are 2.0009-2.0015 in.4Clean ring grooves.NOTEThe two compression rings have marks UP-1 and UP-2. Make sure rings are installed with markstoward top of piston with UP-1 as top ring.5Install piston rings on piston.6 Stagger ring gaps 180.7Install piston on connecting rod.8Lubricate piston pin with clean engine oil (MIL-L-2104).9Install piston pin.10Install retainer rings. Make sure retainer rings are seated in grooves of piston.d. Installation1Lubricate piston rings, connecting rod bearings, and cylinder liners with engine oil (MIL-L-2104).NOTEMake sure connecting rods are installed with marking on opposite side of camshaft.2Using piston ring compressor, compress piston rings.3Install piston in correct cylinder.3-195
