ADVANCED MACHINE OPERATION AND JOB SITE MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES
SCOPE
NOTE
The information in this work package is provided as a supplement to the basic operating procedures
is essential to safe and efficient machine operation.
1.
This work package provides general information as well as advanced operating tips to maximize machine efficiency and
potential.
2.
Proper job site management is crucial to work efficiency and is discussed in this work package.
3.
Instructions on using machine for dust control and compaction operations, including soil stabilization, are covered.
4.
Included in this work package are procedures to install machine attachments (WP 0024 00), as required, to perform:
a.
haul road maintenance--road grading;
b.
cultivating operations; and
c.
de-icing operations.
5.
Charts that indicate desired application rates versus machine adjustments are located at the end of this work package.
JOB SITE MANAGEMENT
Work Planning.
1.
a.
To ensure efficient completion of mission, a plan must be implemented so that operators understand the require-
ments at each stage of the mission.
b.
During the work planning stage, a decision must be made on whether the machine configuration needs to be
changed/adjusted to better perform its mission. Refer to Machine Services and Configuration Changes/Adjust-
ments below.
c.
Operators should be kept informed of the work status to ensure the work is progressing according to plan and on
schedule.
d.
The key to a successful mission is good teamwork: planning, coordination, and communication.
2.
Haul Road Construction and Maintenance.
a.
Proper construction, operation, and maintenance of haul roads are essential to work efficiency. Building smooth
haul roads and keeping them free of ruts, washboards, and debris will enhance operator comfort and safety.
b.
Haul roads should be the width of three machines, typically 24 ft (7.3 m) minimum.
c.
Bank curves on haul roads. Avoid building a haul road that runs across a hillside; operation straight up and down
hill is preferred.
d.
Ensure grade on haul roads will provide good drainage.
e.
Haul roads may be built and maintained using conventional construction techniques. The 613CS Scraper is well
suited for this job.
f.
Monitor condition of haul roads and ensure they are kept properly graded and smooth. The 613CS Scraper, or the
water distributor with cutting edge assembly (WP 0024 00) attached, can be used to maintain haul road in good
condition.
g.
Control dust on roads with water distributor. Refer to Spraying Operation (Upper Spray Bar) in WP 0005 00.
Operation on Haul Roads.
3.
a.
To reduce ruts in haul roads, operators should travel next to the previous track.
b.
Report haul road defects to your supervisor.
